Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, in December 2016. The weather was a bit chilly around 8 to 12 degrees. Prague is a very well preserved city. In it there are reflections of countless historical references throughout the centuries. Prague preserves an atmosphere that goes from the medieval to the modern. We can observe in its gothic architecture, Renaissance buildings, Parisian style, in blocks of communist traits, conceptual works and surrealist, in addition to beautiful classic castles. There’s no doubt, Prague is a wonderful city in center of Europe.

But in this post I want to write about a museum that I visited in the city, of a peculiar characteristic that refers to a period in a Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, when the church go hunting the “witches”. This period is partly documented by the famous book * Malleus Maleficarum.

Malleus Maleficarum Book

Book’s Site: – you can do a download a PDF version.

The museum is not large but it is well organized on its 3 floors, where several rooms expose the instruments, from which they are well arranged, and of course also very well preserved since we are talking about at least 700 years of history. Along with the instruments are several panels and photos that illustrate how those “machines” of torture were operated. Between the floors there are also spaces where old dungeon environments are created, some audio and visual effects are used too.

My contact with the exhibition was very nice, it really is a theme that makes us reflect on aspects of the old European medieval society based on the religious principles of the church; Of how such men “legally” supported in their beliefs committed such atrocities. It is a profound journey in time that makes us rethink about prejudice, ignorance, control and power.

Well my friends and readers in my opinion the museum is very interesting and worth the ticket, I believe that 1 hour is enough to visit all the rooms and experience a bit of the past.
